Sleeps Worries

This was just something I sketched out the other day.

Sunday, December 4, 2011

I decided to branch away from books and video games for a little bit.
Here's a piece on Hades; god of the dead. Included are pomegranates for the tie in with Persephone.

This piece is available as a print.

Coilhouse: Klaus Nomi

I was recently featured in Coilhouse with my illustration of Klaus Nomi. Check it out at or at your local bookstore! I would like to clarify that I did the left page (not including the text). To see my image alone, please click here.

Here's the second Colossus: Quadratus. The quadruped you find in a canyon.

Shadow of the Colossus: Valus

I enjoyed making that Avion picture so much I decided to make one about Valus as well. Valus is the first Colossus.

Prints, as always, are available.

Shadow of the Colossus: Avion

I'm taking a quick break from posting my Harry Potter covers. Don't worry, they're all done and will be posted later.

I've always really loved the game Shadow of the Colossus. It's a beautiful game where every Colossus is epic, awe inspiring, grand, and just all out wonderful. I love how small you are compared to these guys. It makes the story seem so desperate and doomed.

Anyway, heres a quick tribute to one of my favorite Colossi, Avion. The place where you find him made me giddy. I don't think I did it justice but maybe I'll revisit this. I'm also working on a few other Colossus pieces.

As with all my other pieces, this one is available for print since, in reality, its a fairly large piece.

Harry Potter: A concept

I really love the mirroring of Voldemort and Harry throughout the entire series. They really must be one of my favorite protagonist / antagonist duos. I don't want to spoil the series for anyone who hasn't read it but I recommend it on the sheer opinion that J.K. Rowling did a fantastic job with the characters.

Here's a quick piece I did based on Harry / Voldemort in the 5th book, Order of the Phoenix. Not a book cover for once, just a concept piece.

Red Dead Redemption

Here's a quick poster that's been roaming around in my head since starting Red Dead Redemption. I wanted a western feel and to somehow include a skull and crossbones (the guns).
Just a quick poster that I wanted to get out of my head.

Harry Potter: Order of the Phoenix

Still continuing on the Harry Potter theme. This time its for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I finally finished the book earlier today.
I have many ideas for this book. Here are the first two covers I made for the Order of the Phoenix.

I have plenty of more on this one book coming soon (definitely by the end of this week by the latest).

Harry Potter: Goblet of Fire

I'm currently finishing the Harry Potter series. I started it in elementary school but never got around to finishing the books. I finished Goblet of Fire today so I'm sketching possible covers left and right. Here's the first one that came to mind.

I just did an article for Dorkly about Nerdy Recruitment Posters. I really enjoyed making these. You can find them (and "Like" them) here!

Ghost Soldier

This is actually a fairly old drawing of mine but I always felt like I could do something with it. Heres my first result with fiddling with it. Its a ghost soldier.

Fires over London 2

Heres a follow up to my other images. This one is of the rioters however.

Fires over London

Heres my current events illustration about the riots in London that have been happening the past 3 days. I made two because I feel one is slightly more accurate than the other while the other is just a symbol.

Catching Fire

Here's the cover for the book "Catching Fire" which is the second book in the "The Hunger Games" series by Suzanne Collins. I might revisit these and do an entirely new concept. This one features Peeta on its cover unlike the first one I did which featured Katniss.

I decided to keep to the flame theme form the first book to create cohesion and show that they're part of the same series.

The Hunger Games

I'm currently reading "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins. So far, I love it. Just finished book number 2 and I plan on doing an illustration for the second book.

In the mean time, heres one for the first book: The Hunger Games!

Travel Posters

As some of you may know, I work over at Dorkly currently. Dorkly is a videogame sister site of CollegeHumor.
I recently wrote and did the art for an article on travel posters for videogame worlds or planets or towns.
You can find the full article here.

Heres just a few of the ones I have made.

The Stickman Remedy

I forgot to post this piece that I did a while ago. Cover for a cd by the band "The Stickman Remedy"

The Old Man and the Sea

I was given the task to create a window display for any store of my choosing. I chose Barnes and Noble because I find that while books hold amazing tales, their window displays are boring.

Heres an image I created for "The Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemingway.

Moby Dick

So heres the first draft of a Moby Dick cover that I whipped up last night. Pretty happy with it so far.

Moby Dick by Herman Melville

Did I forget to mention that I work for Dorkly? Well I do, in a round about way.

Heres the most recent article. It was an anti-drug campaign using bioshock. Coincidentally I LOVE the 1950's feel of the game so making these posters was a lot of fun! The article was written by Charlie Walden and the entire article can be found here:

Also, a quick hello to everyone coming in from irrational gamer!

Issues in Japan and Senior Show

First off, I would like to congratulate everyone who was accepted into the Fashion Institute of Technologys senior exhibition 2011!

Secondly, (and personally most exciting) my Houdini poster won the bronze award in the senior exhibition! The show will be available for public viewing from May 10 - 24. The show can be located on 27th and 7th street, New York City in FIT's museum. (the piece can be found earlier in my blog)

In artwork news, I was given the task of illustrating the current (and past) issues of Japan; namely the radioactivity problem and the tsunami. Here was my solution.

So. On the suggestion that I do more Shakespeare covers, here we are. Heres my Hamlet cover I did on the fly. Fairly straight forward.

Again I'm going for the graphic design look.

Remembering Katie

Heres an illustration I did for a story (that I can't remember the name of so I ironically named it "Remembering Katie". When I figure out its actual name I'll fix the piece and add the authors name)

EDIT: It is "Going Back In" by Andrew McCarthy (thank you Christian Castro)

Its a story about a girl who drowns on her camping trip with her school (where they teach outdoors skills) and a man, who was present at the time, is haunted for the rest of his life. He finally confronts it by returning to the scene of the incident after years of avoiding it.

Adding the text was not one of the requirement for this, I just decided to add it in for myself.

Help Japan

I'm making a series of illustrations in an attempt to cover current events. So many things are happening; great reforms, and terrible tragedies.

In an attempt to spread awareness of how one can help, I made a quick poster to encourage people to, at the very least, donate to the Red Cross in an effort to help Japan recover.

Heres where you can donate:

Romeo & Juliet

Heres a recover I felt like doing in a graphic design way. I'm just running through a few ideas for it. I may post more later. I'm thinking the second one is a little too dark but I'm going to post it anyway.

It's the Strong Man!

I keep thinking that summer is here and it's only March.
All well. A girl can dream, no?

Anyway, heres my piece inspired by Coney Island! I always picture Coney Island as if it were the early 1900's. Part of me wishes it was.

Painting for school

So.. this is my third oil painting. Really bad scan of it. Maybe I'll take a picture of it later.

Black Swan

I whipped this up after seeing the movie "Black Swan" last night. Fantastic movie. Loved the imagery. I have a number of ideas for the Black Swan poster... this is just the first one I cooked up. Not 100% happy with it but I feel like its almost there.

Photoshop, 2 hours.

This is a class assignment I forgot to post. The goal was to show a sequence of either Houdini's life, or the sequence of one of his tricks.
